Whitewater's Griep, Big Foot's Lueck finish 1-2

— Walworth County provided the top two finishers in the shot put at the WIAA Division 2 state track and field meet Friday at La Crosse.

Whitewater High’s Molly Griep and Walworth Big Foot High’s Alyssa Lueck swapped their placings from the Kewaskum Sectional in the state competition.

Griep won the gold medal at state with a toss of 42 feet, 7¾ inches. Lueck, who won the sectional title over Griep, came in second Friday with a put of 40-7.

n East Troy is jumping for joy after two of the high school’s jumper collected first-place finishes Friday.

The Trojans’ Cody Zaeske took home a Division 2 first-place medal in the triple jump. Zaeske won with a leap of 46-7¼.

The Trojans earned 11 team points in the event when D.J. Sweet finished eight with a leap of 42-4¾.

Later in the day, East Troy’s Bryzena Santos earned a first-place finish in the girls long jump.

Santos fouled on three of her six jumps, but she made her first jump count. Santos flew 18-6 ½ on her initial jump in the competition and that held up for a gold medal.

Tatiana Rice of Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau was second to the East Troy sophomore with a leap of 17-8¾.

n Whitewater’s Cody Fielder came in fifth in the Division 2 pole vault. Fielder cleared 13-6, which four competitors cleared. Fielder was third in that group based on misses.

Walworth Big Foot’s Garett Cary earned a seventh-place finish in the Division 2 discus. Cary threw 152-3.

Ryan Johnson of Amery won the event with a toss of 171-10.

n Jefferson High’s Clayton Morrison finished fourth in the Division 2 boys 800 run in 1:55.37. Monroe High sophomore Ethan Moehn won the event in 1:54.0.
