Monroe tops Plymouth, advances to title game

— The Monroe Cheesemakers will play for the WIAA

Division 2 state softball title Saturday.

Becca Armstrong fired a complete-game four-hitter Thursday to lead the Cheesemakers to a 4-1 win over Plymouth in a state semifinal game at Goodman Diamond.

Monroe (22-7) plays Baldwin-Woodville (27-1) in Saturday’s title game at 3 p.m.

With the game tied 1-1 in the third, Monroe took the lead for good on unearned run. The Cheesemakers added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth.

Armstrong finished with six strikeouts and two walks. Kayla Updike had two hits for the Cheesemakers and drove in two runs.
