— Not much went right Wednesday night for Janesville's American Legion baseball team.

Beloit scored four runs in the top of the first inning and coasted to a 13-2 win in a game that was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Janesville (8-5) committed five errors and managed only four hits in losing its second straight game.

"Beloit hit better than us, pitched better than us and played defense better than us," Janesville coach Bob Schenck said. "There's not much else to say.

"We have to come ready to play from the opening pitch, and I'm not sure that was the case tonight."

Janesville starter Adam Greene suffered the loss, surrendering eight runs in an inning and a third.

Janesville plays in the Andy Smith Memorial three-day tournament in Kenosha beginning Friday. The wood bat only tournament features several top teams from Wisconsin and Illinois. Grays Lake (Ill.) is Janesville's first opponent at 2 p.m. Friday, followed by a game with Wausau at 7 p.m. on Friday.

"It's a fun tournament for the boys because they don't get a chance to swing a wood bat very often," Schenck said. "Because you won't see as many runs scored, you have to have a pretty deep pitching staff, which I think we do.

"There will be some very good teams at Kenosha. I hope we can bounce back from a couple of tough games."
