— Mike Reuter's got a lot on his plate.

As the new executive director for the Rock County Historical Society, Reuter needs to reach out to the community, support staff and volunteers to get ready for the upcoming Lincoln Tallman Arts Festival and annual historic house tour and gala.

"We have many great things going on at RCHS, so I am excited to roll up my sleeves and get to work," Reuter said in a news release.

The society on Thursday announced it had hired Reuter, who now is director of operations/curator coordinator for the Milwaukee County Historical Society.

He starts his new job Monday, July 16.

Reuter of Milwaukee was chosen from a pool of 35 candidates for the Rock County post.

"While we had three excellent finalists, we ultimately were unanimous in our support of Mike," said Chuck Rydberg, historical society board member and selection committee chairman.

"For a young leader, Mike really represents the complete package and has occupied virtually every position at the Milwaukee County Historical Society as it has gone through a transformative stage.

"We see a perfect match between the vision laid out in the Lincoln Tallman Business Plan and the Vision and Legacy Campaign and Mike's passion, experience and ideas. Bottom line is Mike gets what we are trying to accomplish in making this campus a thriving visitor and cultural center."

Reuter holds a bachelor's degree in history from UW-Oshkosh and a master's degree in public history with a certificate in museum studies. He's also been participating in a graduate certificate nonprofit management program.

Reuter also served as an assistant archivist and curator of objects/registrar for the Milwaukee County Historical Society before being promoted to his current position.
