— Starter Jason Wheeler allowed two unearned runs in the first inning, but combined with two Beloit Snappers relievers to blank the host Kane County Cougars the rest of the way for a 4-2 victory Monday in Midwest League baseball.

The Cougars scored two unearned runs in the first inning on a pair of walks, an error by Snappers third baseman Miguel Sano and a sacrifice fly.

Wheeler (8-3) blanked Kane County on four hits through the next five innings. Reliever Tim Atherton allowed one hit through 2 1/3 innings, and closer Corey Williams notched three strikeouts in his 1 2/3 innings to gain his 10th save.

Beloit scored single runs in the first and third innings to tie the game at 2. Adam Bryant ripped an RBI single in the fourth inning to give Beloit the lead for good at 3-2. Tyler Grimes added an RBI double in the fourth.
