Those needing refuge from the heat are invited to visit The Salvation Army, 514 Sutherland Ave., Janesville.

The community center will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, except Saturday. People can come in and sit in the cool building, have access to ice water and eat a free meal on those days.

Any time the thermometer goes above 90 degrees, the Salvation Army opens its doors to the public, said Maj. Ruth Fay.

A free lunch will be served weekdays and a complimentary breakfast is served Sundays.
