Five seeking Clinton trustee seats

— Five candidates, including two incumbents, will vie for three open village trustee seats April 3.

Incumbent Marianne Nielson is not running, said Pam Franseen, village treasurer and deputy clerk.

Bill R. Ruston

Age: 74

Address: 202 E. St., Clinton.

Job: Retired electrician

Education: Graduate of Clinton High School and Blackhawk Technical College

Community service: Volunteered to do the electrical and sound work for Shopiere's Fourth of July festivities for 50 years.

Elected posts: Village president for 20 years and on the board for 13 years.

Major campaign issues: Attracting industry to employ a number of people.

"That brings up the tax revenue and takes the burden off the taxpayers."

Arthur J. Bushue (I)

Age: 70

Address: 428 Karen Lane, Clinton.

Job: Retired

Education: 1959 graduate of Mattoon, Ill., Senior High School, bachelor's degree in chemistry, mathematics and management from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale; graduate business administration courses at Bradley University, Peoria, Ill.; and master's degree in business administration from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston.

Community service: Clinton Forestry Program leader and volunteer of the month, founder of Clinton Arbor Day Observation Committee and led it until Clinton's Independent Forestry Board that he chairs was established in 2006, Clinton Community Historical Society, Friends of Clinton Public Library, founder of Clinton's Adopt-A-Plot volunteer floral beautification program and has led it since 1998.

Elected posts: Clinton village trustee since 1994

Major campaign issues: Planning and managing municipal finances and actions to satisfactorily meet the immediate and long-term needs for constituent services, debt retirement, TIF district and community development, staff morale and the general well-being of the Clinton community.

Education: Clinton High School graduate, certified chiropractic assistant.

Community service: Village board of appeals, forestry board, planning commission, legislative review, park board, and park chairwoman.

Elected posts: Village trustee since 2010

Major campaign issues: Village fees and building inspection contract.

"We have too many fees to impose on the taxpayer. I also want to complete cleaning/sprucing up our parks with the aid of free labor from the Rock County Work Enders."

Alan D. Wiedmer

Age: 50

Address: 311 Durand St., Clinton.

Job: Logistics manager for Synerject, Delavan.

Education: 1987 and 1996 graduate of UW-Whitewater with degrees in business and management.

Community service: Former Clinton youth baseball coach and board member, former Pelishek Natural Trail board member.

Elected posts: Clinton village trustee

Major campaign issues: Creating and maintaining a pro-business culture for the existing and future companies in Clinton, practicing fiscal constraint when spending the hard-earned tax dollars of Clinton's residents and cooperating with other government agencies.
