Janesville Craig boys grab Orgeon regional

— Craig High won five individual events at the Division 1 Oregon regional boys track and field Monday en route to the regional championship.

Craig scored 172 points while crosstown rival Parker finished second with 106½ points.

The Cougars send 13 individual qualifiers and three relays to the sectional meet Thursday in Waterford for a shot at a berth in the WIAA Division 1 state track and field meet May 31 through June 2 at UW-La Crosse. Parker qualified six individuals and three relays for the sectional.

Winners for Craig included Evan Lalor in the 1,600 run (4:31.98), Spencer Hrycay in the 3,200 (9:44.23), Rutger Meister in the 110 high hurdles (14.97), and Calvin Coleman in the long jump (21-1½) and the triple jump (45-5).

Parker winners included Brad Money in the 800 run (1:59.95) and Trevor Steinke in the shot put (54¼). The Vikings’ Shawn Bohler, Noah Seichter, Ben Ramdell and Brad Money combined to win the 1,600 relay (3:29.6).

For the girls, Craig finished second with 143½ points, while Verona posted 156½ for the regional title. Parker scored 54½ points to finish sixth in the eight-team regional.

Craig’s Maggie Slatter won the 200 dash (27:16), Danica Reinicke won the 3,200 run (11:53.48) and Allison Calkins won regional titles in the triple jump (35-10) and the long jump (16-6¼).

Parker’s Miranda Slaback won the 1,600 run regional title (5:26.11).
