— Parker High lost a 3-2 heartbreaker Tuesday to Madison East in Big Eight Conference softball.

The Vikings are 7-10 in the Big Eight and 7-13 overall.

Parker took a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh on Ashley Ross’s two-run homer with two outs. But East put together a base hit, wild pitch, triple and Mary Ottelien’s RBI single to score tying and winning runs.

East registered nine hits off Parker starter Erin Muehlenkamp, but mustered only one run through the first six innings. Meanwhile, East’s Miranda Morrison allowed three hits, notched 14 strikeouts and walked none.

In the first meeting with East, the Vikings reached Morrison for nine hits, while striking out three times as Parker won, 8-2.

“I think (Morrison) did a nice job,” Parker coach Jenni Seisser said. “But we were swinging at balls out of the strike zone. The girls didn’t understand the zone tonight.’’

Seisser said despite striking out a lot, the Vikings hung tough for the game.

“I was happy with how we played defense,” Seisser said. “Our bats were not awake, but I was pleased with the way the girls battled back, and didn’t let East walk all over us.’’

Parker hosts Madison West at 4:30 p.m. Thursday to conclude the Big Eight Conference regular season.
