— Craig High bombed visiting Beloit Memorial with 12 hits en route to a 7-4 victory Tuesday in Big Eight Conference softball.

Craig is 12-5 in the Big Eight and 15-6 overall.

The Cougars rallied for four runs on five straight singles and an error in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead.

Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said the Cougars had some good swings, but there was room for improvement.

“We has so many great at-bats, and we had at-bats I didn’t recognize,” Bayreuther said.

Sophomore Nicole Kelly went 3-for-4, while Haley Bayreuther, Stephanie Perleberg and Leigh Grall each had two hits for Craig.

Cougars’ starter Paige Weber held the Purple Knights to four hits, but Tala Cornell tagged the senior for a two-run homer in the sixth inning and added a double.

“It was Beloit’s 2-3-4 hitters that got the hits,” Bayreuther said. “The rest were all zeros.’’

Craig travels to Madison La Follette at 4:30 p.m. Thursday for the final Big Eight regular-season game.
