— Voters in Linn Joint 6 School District will decide whether to allow the district to issue up to $2.8 million in general obligation bonds for repair and improvement projects to Reek Elementary School, W4094 South Lakeshore Drive.

The projects under the bond referendum include replacing the school roof and windows; improving the heating, electrical and plumbing systems; upgrading technology systems; improving site drainage and creating a safer area for student drop-off and pick-ups.

If the referendum is approved, the school district tax rate would be $2.09 per $1,000 of assessed value, or $209 for a house worth $100,000 in assessed value.

The current district property tax rate is $1.81 per $1,000 of assessed value.

Voters rejected a $3.9 million referendum for repairs to Reek Elementary School in April 2011 and October 2011.

Joe Zirngibl, district superintendent, said in a school board survey in January 2011, that residents indicated they wanted to fix the current building.

Zirngibl said the school board decided to trim some projects from the original $3.9 million list of improvements, including adding air conditioning in the classrooms, upgrading exterior lighting and replacing existing furnaces with unit ventilators.
