Salary budgets rose 2.1 percent in survey
JANESVILLE Rock County 5.0 and the Blackhawk Human Resource Association have released the results of a salary and benefits survey that looks at hourly wages and benefits for local employees.
The survey provides a comprehensive listing of hourly wages, covering nearly 70 occupational titles. In addition to providing detailed salary information, employer benefits packages also are profiled.
The survey results represent data reported from more than 50 businesses and organizations encompassing more than 6,000 employees.
The survey found that:
-- The average general salary budget increase was 2.1 percent, while the average pay range adjustment was 1.8 percent.
-- All respondents indicated that they provided health care coverage for their employees and approximately 96 percent offered dental coverage, as well.
-- Nearly 65 percent said they provided some form of tuition reimbursement.

This survey of 6000 employees of 50 companies means an average of 120 employees per company. IMO this applies to larger companies, not small businesses who employ 50 or less employees usually. What the article doesn't cover or the survey didn't include was what percentage of health insurance premium the company pays. The small business I am associated with OFFERS health insurance but pays just part of the premium. Dental coverage is an option but it is expensive. I bet if you surveyed just small businesses you would find that not many offered any increases at all due to the lousy economy.
