Janesville Comfort Shoppe not going out of business
JANESVILLE A Janesville furniture store is once again dealing with confusion over similarities between its name and the name of a store in Madison.
Janesville Comfort Shoppe has two stores in Janesville, one on Pontiac Drive and another on Center Avenue. For years, the Janesville stores have been mistakenly linked to a store in Madison that has the name Comfort Shoppe.
"We have no affiliation whatsoever with the store in Madison," said Barb Fairclough, who owns the two stores in Janesville with her husband, Bob, and son, Jeff. "We are not in any way connected to them, and our two stores in Janesville will be around as long as we are able."
Fairclough said someone recently visited her south-side Janesville store with a letter entitling the bearer to 10 percent off advertised prices. The letter, however, was from the Madison store and not connected to the Janesville Comfort Shoppe.
In addition, the letter said the Madison store would be going out of business.
Fairclough said she wants people to know that any promotions, advertising or correspondence involving the Madison store have nothing to do with her stores in Janesville, which she said are most definitely not going out of business.

They offer a decent selection and affordable price points, I bought a sofa from there about 20 yrs ago and just passed it on to one of my children. It's still holding up very well.

bestforkids- the last paragraph makes it sound like they wont accept that. Maybe they did and Gazette isn't reporting that part of the story and for good reason then everybody would find the add and run it and ask them to honor it.

I didn't read anything in this article that stated that they did not honor the 10%. Maybe they did and it just wasn't reported in the article since it wasn't the point of the story. Geez people!

mrs- I was thinking that too. 10 % isn't huge and you may have lost a customer. This way you could have gained a sale VS no sale and gained a customer. Or said we cannot do 10% because this is already priced well and we will do 5%. Something- in these times you CANNOT let business walk out the door.

I am glad to hear they will be around for a long time yet. I have bought several furniture items from them and reccomend them all the time. They have always been very friendly and willing to do whatever they can to help me find what I am looking for.

I wouldn't mind if it closed. We bought a kitchen table set there and the metal legs had bad welds on them. We complained and they sent another pair of legs with the same problem. We again complained. They agreed that they were indeed defective. So they got more legs and every one was defective. They said it was a company in California that made the furniture with the legs imported from Mexico and there was nothing they could do about it. Oh and by the way- no refund. That was the last time we set foot inside their business.

Mrsdamracefan,
It is very possible that they could not honor it. Do you realize that on big ticket items the profit margin is probably in the 10-20% range?

Now a smart business owner would have honored that coupon just for the customer coming in the door. Whats 10 percent that is $.10 off of every dollar I am sure they could have honored it my god.
