TOWN OF BELOIT Police are looking for a blue van that might have been used by robbers who attacked and robbed an elderly couple in their home Wednesday night.
An alert resident told police of seeing a dark blue, full-size conversion van parked on Paddock Road around the time of the home invasion, Town of Beloit Police Chief Steve Kopp said.
Two men in Halloween masks attacked the couple in their home in the 3100 block of South Madison Road around 7:37 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
Kopp said Thursday that he did not yet have complete reports from the investigating officers, so he couldn't fully describe the masks, but one of them was described as having a dark face with large teeth.
The men also wore gloves and dark clothing, police said.
Deputies from the Rock County Sheriff's Office and its K-9 unit tracked the robbers to a nearby location, where it appeared the robbers had a vehicle parked. It appeared from the trail that the robbers had been scouting possible targets, Kopp said.
The men came through a rear door and demanded money, police said. One robber beat the man with a branch while the other man dumped the contents of the female victim's purse and took the billfold.
The man's injuries were minor cuts on his hands from fending off the blows from branch, Kopp said.
They ripped the couple's telephone from the wall before leaving.
