Fury loses opener
Visiting Brookfield proved why it is considered one of the best girls hockey teams in the state this season.
Morgan Hollowell and Arianna Smith each had a hat trick to lead Brookfield to an 8-3 victory over Rock County in a season opener Tuesday night.
Smith also had three assists, while Hollowell had two.
"I was very happy with the effort tonight," Fury coach Darrel Moore said. "We played hard from start to finish and were able to hang with Brookfield for most of the night."
Rock County's Jordan Hoffman's goal tied the game at 1-1, and Katie Maegli's goal tied the game at 2-all. Kayla Einbeck scored the other Rock County goal.
Fury goalie Madison Lewis made 33 saves.
"We won a lot of the physical battles and races for the puck," Moore said. "If we play with this intensity and heart, then we will be very competitive this year."
The Fury will compete in the Black River Falls tournament Friday and Saturday.
