Michael Johnson is a smaller-sized running back that had a huge game Friday night.

The 5-foot-8, 168-pound senior scored seven touchdowns rushing and finished with a school-record 372 yards to lead Evansville/Albany to a 61-12 homecoming victory over visiting Beloit Turner in a had a game that might never be topped for the Evansville/Albany football team Friday night.

“He busts through the line and before you know it, he’s gone,” said long-time Evansville/Albany coach Ron Grovesteen. “He’s difficult to see, but he can go.”

The modern-day state record for touchdowns in a game is eight by Josh Murray of Pepin in 2005, according to records compiled by Kevin Patrowsky and listed on the Wisconsin Football Coaches Associated website.

Johnson scored on runs of 12, 28, 8, 20, 10, 19 and 50 yards. His first six touchdowns came in the first half, when the Blue Devils built a 48-6 lead. His 50-yarder came on his sixth carry in the third quarter, and he then sat out the remainder of the game.

“We ran him outside first,” Grovesteen said. “Then he had some plays off tackle, and he made plays there, too. He was determined from last week to do it tonight.”

Jefferson held the Blue Devil offense in check in a 21-7 victory last week.

Johnson joins 14 other players who scored seven in a game. Elk Mound’s Jake Morris scored seven touchdowns in two different games in 1992.

Johnson’s 372 yards rushing broke the school record of 319 set last season by Dalton Sendelbach.

Clayton Stenulson had 50 yards on 12 carries for the Trojans (0-6, 0-7).
