Jets lose at Johnstown

— The Janesville Jets tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Johnstown Tomahawks held on for a 5-3 NAHL victory Saturday night.

Johnstown went ahead,

5-1, on a goal by Cody Gylling at 7:31 in the third period, before Janesville rallied to within

5-3 on goals from Jason Ford and Zach Diamantoni.

The Tomahawks’ penalty kill excelled, as Johnstown

(3-3) gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. Johnstown was 3 for 8 on the power play.

The Jets (4-3) were hurt by penalties, finishing with 11 minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. Janesville surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game.

Eric Cruickshank scored a first-period goal for the Jets.

Johnstown struck quickly as Mitch Kontny scored just 16 seconds in.

The Tomahawks outshot the Jets, 38-11.

Janesville starting goalie Brock Kautz made 26 saves and took the loss. He was replaced by Austin Priebe, who stopped seven shots.

The two teams play again today.
