WIAA football pairings set

Walworth Big Foot’s unbeaten and second-ranked football team figured to be a force in the Division 3 bracket of the WIAA postseason playoffs.

The Chiefs have been untouchable in rolling to an 8-0 record and an amazing 43-game winning streak in the Rock Valley Conference.

But Big Foot in Division 4? That’s a scary proposition for the other 31 teams in the Chiefs’ run to a state title.

The WIAA released the 224-team playoff field early Saturday morning, and when the 8-team regional brackets were released, Big Foot was placed in Division 4. That allows the Chiefs to avoid the likes of Division 3 powers Wisconsin Lutheran, Monona Grove, Mount Horeb/Barneveld and a potential state title game matchup with top-ranked West De Pere.

Big Foot’s road to Camp Randall will be filled with far less potholes in Division 4, starting with Friday’s Level 1 game against St. John’s NW Military Academy.

The Chiefs are the No. 1 seed in the D4, Group D bracket, which also includes fourth-seeded Brodhead/Juda and sixth-seeded Edgerton. Brodhead/Juda hosts fifth-seeded Campbellsport on Saturday afternoon, while Edgerton plays third-seeded Manitowoc Roncalli on Friday night. Edgerton got into the postseason thanks to back-to-back wins to end the season and a 4-4 overall record. The Crimson Tide was 3-4 in the Rock Valley North.

In the Division 3 Group 3 bracket, third-seeded Evansville/Albany hosts sixth-seeded McFarland in a Level 1 game. Seventh-seeded Monroe plays at second-seeded Mount Horeb/Barneveld on Friday night in the same bracket.

Jefferson plays at East Troy on Friday night in the Group D bracket of Division 3.

Fifth-seeded DeForest plays at Badger Conference foe and fourth-seeded Fort Atkinson in a Division 2 Group C game Friday night, and third-seeded Lake Geneva Badger hosts sixth-seeded Muskego in a Division 1 Level 1 game Saturday afternoon.
