Brodhead/Juda, Badger win football playoff openers

Brodhead/Juda slipped past Campbellsport, 19-12, in a WIAA Division 4 first-round football playoff game Saturday.

The Cardinals (6-3) advance to play at undefeated Walworth Big Foot (9-0) either Friday or Saturday.

Brodhead/Juda scored all its points in the second quarter, including Cole Baumann’s 19-yard fumble return for touchdown to give the Cards a 19-6 lead at the half.

The Cougars gained 253 yards rushing on 50 carries to control the football, but committed five turnovers, including losing two fumbles and three interceptions.

Taylor Straschinske scored on a 34-yard TD run to give Campbellsport a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. The Cards dominated the second quarter to gain a 19-6 lead on Reeve Lincoln’s two-yard run, Griffin Day’s 23-yard TD pass reception from Matt Trotter and Baumann’s TD fumble recovery off of the Cards’ kickoff.

Peter Krien scored on a 74-yard touchdown run, threw a 59-yard TD pass to Andrew Cychner and returned a kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown Saturday to lead Lake Geneva Badger to a 28-27 victory over Muskego in a Division 1 first-round football playoff game.

Muskego’s David Kucharski returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown with 1 minute 24 seconds to play, but the Warriors did not convert the extra point for the final outcome.
