Halloween safety tips

Prepping costumes

-- Add reflective tape to costumes or trick-or-treat bags.

-- Use flame-resistant costumes.

-- Use face makeup instead of masks that can cover eyes and make it difficult to see.

When out and about

-- Make sure trick-or-treaters have a flashlight.

-- Visit only homes that have porch lights on.

-- Accept treats only at the door. Never go inside.

-- Walk only on sidewalks, not in the street. If there is no sidewalk, walk at the edge of the roadway, facing traffic.

-- Look both ways before crossing the street. Cross only at the corner.

-- Don't cut across yards or use alleys. Don't cross between parked cars.

-- Be cautious around strange animals.

-- Never enter the home or vehicle of a person offering candy.

-- Don't eat treats until they can be inspected at home.

-- Make sure young children are accompanied by a responsible adult.

Greeting trick-or-treaters

-- Make sure outdoor lights are on.

-- Sweep leaves away from sidewalks and steps.

-- Clear porches and front lawns of any obstacles that children might trip over.

-- Restrain pets.

-- Use glow sticks instead of candles in jack-o-lanterns to avoid fire hazards.

These are prime hours for active people. Shopping, groceries, eating...when the night winds down...8pm a lot more people are home i'd guess. Starting at 5:30 im sure as usuall maybe 3 houses on my entire street will have candy. And my motion light on my front door tricks everyone....it comes on when they walk by and i wont be home. My dogs are going to go nuts.

It is dark at 6:30 now. They moved DSTime to Nov so half can go light and half can go dark.
I wish more would turn on their lights. We only get under 20. Last year 18 maybe.
