— Mother Nature put an early end to Tuesday night's boys soccer game between Janesville Parker and Madison East.

The Purgolders led 2-0 when the game was stopped due to lightning in the area with 12 minutes left to play. East was awarded the Big Eight Conference win based on time played.

Parker (2-8-1, 0-4-0) trailed 2-0 at half but dominated action in the second half before play was stopped.

"We controlled the ball in their end most of the second half," Parker coach Andy Holmes said. "We just couldn't get enough shots on goal.

"It was too bad they had to stop it because we were playing very well at that point. But I certainly agree with the referee's decision because there was lightning real close by."

Parker plays a nonconference game at Westosha Central on Friday night.

-- Beloit 3, Craig 0—Beloit scored a goal with just with one second left in the first half en route to a Big Eight Conference victory against visiting Craig on Tuesday night.

The game was stopped with seven minutes left in the game due to lightning.

The last-second goal, which put the Purple Knights ahead, 2-0, hurt the most, Craig coach Charles Friedrich said.

"You can't make a mental mistake like that against a team like Beloit," Friedrich said of the Cougars playing with the ball deep in their end. "In the last 10 seconds, you boot it into the lake.

"You say hello to the ducks," Friedrich said. "You just don't play around with it."

The Cougars then misfired on three chances early in the second half.

"We're a good second-half team," Friedrich said. "The first minute of the second half we had three great chances. The Beloit keeper made a great save on a one-on-one shot from 20 yards out. Then we nicked one just wide on a goal that was wide open. Those chances you have to put the goal away."

Craig (3-7 overall, 0-4 in conference) plays at home against Greenfield in a nonconference match Thursday.

The last goal of this game was also scored by Freshman Jose Barron, not Eduardo Lopez. The future is very bright for BMHS soccer with two goals off the feet of freshman!!
