St. Paul's meet set Friday

St. Paul's and the Janesville Tuesday Morning Optimist Club will conduct their 32nd Annual Flames Cross Country Meet on Friday.

The meet will be held at the Youth Sports Complex and is scheduled to begin at 4:15 p.m.

Parochial schools from Janesville and the surrounding area compete in this event. Last year, 20 schools attended for a total of 364 runners.

Races are divided by grades, with the order of the races being: 4th-grade girls, 4th-grade boys, 5th-grade girls, 5th-grade boys, 6th-grade girls, 6th-grade boys, 7th-grade girls, 8th-grade girls, 7th-grade boys, and 8th-grade boys.

All of the girls and the boys, grades 4-6, run one mile. The boys in 7th and 8th run 1½ miles.

Certificates are awarded to each runner. The top runner in each race receives a first-place trophy.

Second- through fifth-place runners in each race receive a medal. The trophies and medals are courtesy of the Tuesday Morning Optimists.
