White's header helps Craig soccer tie
Odean White's goal off a header gave Janesville Craig a 1-1 tie with visiting Greenfield in a nonconference boys soccer match Thursday night.
The teams played through two 10-minute overtime periods without a score, but there were plenty of opportunities.
"It was soccer at its most intense," Craig coach Charles Friedrich said. "Both teams were slugging it out."
In one sequence, Craig keeper Keagan Leckey blocked two straight shots that deflected off the post, and after the Cougars cleared the ball and advanced it; Greenfield keeper Brett Szalaczinski deflected two shots that went off the Greenfield goal post.
"It was the most incredible sequence I've ever seen," Friedrich said. "It was insane."
Craig fell behind, 1-0, at the 17-minute mark, but tied it 19 minutes into the second half. Noel Ceballos fed a cross from the right side that White put in with a powerful header.
The Cougars, 3-7-1, host the Craig Quadrangular starting at 10 a.m. Saturday. Craig plays Jefferson at 10 a.m., and Racine Park plays DeForest. The winners and losers match up at 2 p.m.
