Ryan: Attacks a reminder world needs US leadership
Romney selects Ryan

Click here to view a special section on Paul Ryan, selected to be Republican candidate Mitt Romney's running mate in the 2012 presidential campaign.
ASHWAUBENON, Wis. Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan says President Barack Obama’s defense spending cuts “breed weakness” — a vulnerability the United States can’t afford following the killings of four Americans in Libya.
His comments at a town hall meeting Wednesday near Green Bay came after a question about national defense from a man in the audience wearing a hat indicating he was a Bronze Star recipient. Ryan began the meeting asking for a moment of silence for the four Americans killed overseas.
“Peace through strength works,” Ryan said after the question. “It is very important that a president speak with a singular voice representing our principles and values. We don’t want people around the world wondering what our values are.”
Ryan then repeated his frequent criticism of Obama on defense, saying “I believe the president’s devastating defense cuts breed weakness.”
Obama on Wednesday vowed the United States would “work with the Libyan government to bring to justice” those who killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans in an attack on the consulate in Benghazi.
At his Wisconsin gathering, Ryan said the attacks are a reminder that the world needs American leadership.
“We do not want a world climate where our adversaries are so tempted to test us and our allies are worried about trusting us,” Ryan said to loud applause. “That is unfortunately the path we are on in America.”
Joe Zepecki, Wisconsin communications director for the Obama campaign, blamed potential defense cuts on Ryan and Congressional Republicans.
“Once again Mr. Ryan has chosen to stick with the tried and true Romney playbook of launching debunked attacks against President Obama — this time attempting to blame him for automatic defense cuts when the only thing standing in the way of preventing them is the refusal by Congressional Republicans, led by Paul Ryan, to ask for one more dime from millionaires and billionaires,” Zepecki said in a statement.
Ryan, the House Budget Committee chairman, spent much of the town hall session repeating well-worn campaign themes warning of an economic collapse, criticizing Obama for the level of national debt and promising a more frugal federal government under Romney.
Ryan said the collapse in 2008 wasn’t expected, while the new threat that looms is.
“Remember the Jimmy Carter years?” he asked. “We don’t want to repeat the Jimmy Carter years?”
Ryan was introduced to the crowd by Gov. Scott Walker, who promised that for the first time since he was in high school and Ryan was in middle school, Wisconsin would vote for a Republican for president. The last time that happened was in 1984.
Many in the crowd waved orange fans that said “Defend freedom, defeat Obama.”
Wanda Wanie, 44, of De Pere came to the event with her 14 year-old son and 16-year-old daughter. Wanie said she agreed with Ryan’s criticisms of Obama on foreign policy.
“I think the president right now spends more time golfing than the things he needs to be doing,” she said.
Ryan, a native of Janesville, has spent a lot of time in his home state since joining Romney’s ticket in August. He came to the stage wearing a Green Bay Packers polo shirt.
Wisconsin, and its 10 electoral votes, has become more of a battleground with the increase in advertising and appearances by the candidates. Vice President Joe Biden plans to campaign on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Thursday.

By the way, what does Israel spend all it's money on since we/you/me pay such a large portion of their defense budget? Anyone? Bueller...Bueller?
Universal healthcare for it's citizens.
Who pledges unwavering financial support for Israel in the hopes of bringing about Armageddon? Righties. Romney/Ryan will get us hoisted into a war with the 75 million people in Iran. Iran is not Iraq.
Iran can't physically hit the USA with any weapons nuke or none-nuke.

If you don't stick your nose out into other people's business, it won't get punched. America first. We're not world cops."
Take care of America first? You better tell that to Romney, he made his millions by taking over companies breaking them up, and selling them off, and laying of thousands, and keeping all this in a swiss bank account. Doesn't sound like he's 'taking care of America' to me, sounds like he's just taking care of himself.

Baratheon_Prince- there are many non-politicians that make that or more giving speeches, so what, are the US tax payers paying the speech fees? NO so nothing to complain about there. It's the politicians who cash in on war to make millions of personal profit OFF the US taxpayer, ask Cheney how that works, but you'll need a plane ticket to Dubai.
Repubs talk about cutting this and cutting that, all that help the poor and us 200,000 a year middle class, (Bahahaha I wish). But after they take away the safety nets they have left over tax money so they create companies to go into the war zones and label them 'security' and bill the tax payers millions. so the repubs take from the needy and give to the wealthy all the while the debt just keeps rising. Oh but they took away from the welfare and medicare and SS, just like the promised to do, they just give it to the likes of Cheney under made up companies. You all have no thought process past the words 'we're going to take away the income for thousands of needy' while under their breath they say 'and give it to our buddies to keep in overseas accounts'. Romney wants to give tax breaks to those who make over 250,000 - you know, the middle class, Bahahahahahah
Ryan's even a bigger joke, trying to say GM closed under Obama when in fact Romney AND Ryan voted to let them close up under Bush.

"Democrats and their sharky Obamedia defense lawyers are in a snit. For three dreamy convention days in Charlotte, they told themselves that, for the first time in decades, it was their guy who had the upper hand when it came to national security. Now that bubble has burst, the way contrived narratives do when they crash into concrete challenges. At that point, an airy president of the world won’t do; we need to have a president of the United States, a job that has never suited, and has never been of much interest to, Barack Obama.
Defense against foreign enemies is the primary job of the president of the United States. The rationale for the office’s creation is national defense — not green venture capitalism, not rationing medical care, not improving the self-image of the “Muslim world,” not leaving no child behind, not blowing out the Treasury’s credit line. Yet, though we are entering the late innings, foreign policy and national defense have not been factors in the 2012 campaign.
That is worth bearing in mind when we hear the laugh-out-loud narrative of Obama as foreign-affairs chess master. The president badly wants to win reelection. If there were anything to his alleged prowess, we’d not have heard the end of it. What we’ve heard, instead, is a bumper-sticker: “Obama killed Osama.” The Left hoped to paste it over the president’s generally dreary record. Even with the Obamedia in coordinated overdrive, the plan can work only if Mitt Romney lets it work — and, thankfully, it looks like he won’t."

Ever since the Iraq war, the public has been losing confidence in Republicans for the one area they traditionally tried to portray as a strength: foreign policy. The country is tired of endless wars and conflicts. Sec. of State Clinton has done an outstanding job, and the Republicans just can't take it during an election year. They turn every interneational incident into a condemnation of the US government. In the past, this would have been seen as sedition. Now it's just business as usual when you're down in the polls. Had a Republican won the last election, we would probably still have a army in Iraq. It's time to turn the page on the old ways of thinking about foreign policy.

"When Obama intervened in Libya, Romney hopped between positions: First, he supported military action to support the Libyan rebels and even suggested that Obama had ruled out ground forces for unseemly political reasons. Obama's foreign policy resulted in 3 Middle Eastern countries overthrowing their dictatorships to begin the process of forming quasi-democracies without a single loss of American life. There are two more Countries whose fate has not yet been determined. The current conditions in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya are about the same or better than whats happening in Iraq and Afghanistan where thousands of American soldiers have sacrificed their lives. Obama's use of engaging our allies creates a united front which also serves to reduce tensions over "western" interference. Its pretty simple, I actually stated it.... The forgein policy by the admin since he came into office was one of appologizing and attempting to reduce the US supremacy in the region. It has been one of showing support in the form of meetings etc to our enemies while rebuffing our allies. The support of the arab spring and the support (verbally and financially in Egypt through aid) to the new governments has lead to the current instability. You cannot negotiate with people that want to remove you from the face of the earth. You have no position to negotiate from. At best the current admin is naive. When you consider fast & furious and the current arab debacle -- it is obvious Obama is unqualified to lead.
We should be acting with force -- the position taken that its only a small group of people shows that people just do not realize what they are facing in that region. Our answer should swift and firm. No aid. Look at what we sent to sort out the problem in Lybia -- the FBI -- like this is a crime scene.-- its an act of war -- yes Marines went -- likely to protect the FBI. Obama in this case bears the load and the admin is resopnsible for what is happening.

Republicans Bash Romney’s Bungling on Libya
Republican Peggy Noonan, a former speech writer for President Ronald Reagan:
"I don't feel that Mr. Romney has been doing himself any favors in the past few hours," she said. "When you step forward in the midst of a political environment and start giving statements on something dramatic and violent that has happened, you're always leaving yourself open to accusations that you are trying to exploit things politically."
Rep. Peter King- Republican:
"I probably would have waited 12 or 24 hours and put out a more comprehensive statement," Rep. Peter T. King (R-N.Y.), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, told reporters on Capitol Hill. Romney's statement "can be perceived as being political."
Former Republican Senator John Sununu, NH:
They probably should have waited," Sununu said. "You look at the way things unfolded, you look at the timing of it, they probably should have waited."
Steve Schmidt, manager of John McCain's 2008 campaign:
"For people who are running for president, this is a test where people evaluate their mettle as commander in chief, and the Romney campaign put out a statement before the facts were in that politicized the matter and gratuitously attacked the administration for something they did not do," Schmidt said. "The decision to double down on the initial mistake has put them into a potentially very dangerous political situation. During a foreign policy crisis, you can't build a position on a foundation of politics. … The situation remains serious, it's volatile and Romney is appearing to be very political."

REPUBLICANS BASH ROMNEY'S BUNGLING ON LIBYA:
Romney's statement "can be perceived as being
political."

How terrible...On the campaign trial at a picnic in Racine, W.Va., Romney devoted almost his entire 27-minute address to a critique of Obama. On a day when seven U.S. servicemen were killed in a suicide bombing attack in Afghanistan, Romney termed the war in Afghanistan "catastrophic." Still later, he blasted the president's record on job creation, health care, energy independence and education.
How dare he during this time question national policy....oh wait. That wasn't Romney talking about Afghanistan, that was actually John Kerry talking about Iraq and Bush during the 2004 campaign.
Just shows how hypocritical the media and the left wing sheeple are. Sad.

Romney has already ID'd Russia as the US's top foe -when we have domestic and international terrorism abound. Talk about clueless. Meanwhile Putin gets an ego boost.
http://abcnews.go.com/International/wire...
Romney wants a tangible target to justify expanding our military. Teenage suicide bombers, deadly as they are -aren't going to cause the defense budget to increase.
The Romney Ryan notion is to give the people an enemy we can see on a map -like Russia and Iran (or Iraq previously), so we can continue to spend more than double on defense spending than Russia and China...combined.
Makes it tough for our nation to compete economically when we have the load to bear with defense spending. And with this economic weakness comes geopolitical weakness. So it's a waste.
Somehow Romney and Ryan plan to pay for extra defense spending to save us from Russia, with more tax cuts for the wealthy.
Romney and Ryan act like it's the 1950s early 60s in America a Patriarchal White run society with Russia as our foe, and Mom wearing her pearls in the kitchen, etc etc. Come to think of it - they do resemble Wally and the Beav a bit.

“Peace through strength works.” - Paul Ryan
I beg your pardon! Peace? Two wars in Iraq, the war in Afghanistan. That's not what I call peace through strength! Bring our troops home. All of them. Quit bankrupting America with insane levels of spending on the military. America is spending $711 billion per year on the military, China $143 billion per year and Russia $72 billion per year. We could reduce our military spending by $496 billion per year and still be spending as much as China and Russia COMBINED.
Paul Ryan, stick to the deal you pushed through the House to cut defense spending. Don't back down now that your political livelihood depends on it.
"Paul Ryan slammed President Obama for scheduled defense cuts on Tuesday, despite voting for the bill that created them and playing an instrumental role in selling it to skeptical Republicans. The cuts, which were part of last year’s debt-ceiling deal, are set to take effect Jan. 1, 2013, because Congress failed to reach an agreement on alternative savings. Both Obama and Ryan say that Republican’s refusal to put tax increases on the table are what’s driving the standoff. " [ http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/0... ]

And if Ryan is serious about balancing the budget, he's going to need to cut the largest single budget item we have. Military spending is 25% of our budget. I don't see how we can cut total spending without cutting some money here.
