Jets start off with a win

— The Showcase Tournament has been good to the Janesville Jets.

Janesville won the season-opening NAHL tournament a year ago and started out the 2012 season with a win here Wednesday.

Austin Vieth had a goal and two assists in Janesville's 5-3 win over the Minot Minotaurs in a penalty-filled game. The two teams were whistled for 22 penalties.

Janesville took a quick 2-0 lead in the first on goals from Matt Salituro at 3:49 and Eric Carlson's shorthanded goal at 15:25. The Jets finished with three powerplay goals and a shorthanded goal. Janesville was 3-for-11 on powerplays.

Brock Kautz got the win, stopping 21 of 24 shots.

Janesville plays the Wichita Falls Wildcats this morning in its second game of the Showcase Tournament.
