Craig downs Beloit
Sierra Rhodes was a busy swimmer for Janesville Craig, and it helped the Cougars defeat Beloit, 99-71, in a Big Eight meet at Beloit.
Rhodes, a sophomore, competed in back-to-back-to-back events and finished first in all of them.
She began her tripleheader by winning the 100 freestyle in 58.24. Rhodes didn’t rest long before she was back in the pool in the 500 freestyle, which she won in 5:39.49.
Rhodes then swam the third leg of the 200 freestyle relay along with Emma Schmaling, Kendall Cawkins and Maggie Gorman. The Cougars won the event in 1:47.99.
“She asked me if she could do that,” Craig coach Brian Kitzman said of the three events in a row challenge. “I’m not sure I’ve ever had a swimmer do that. It’s a pretty gutsy thing to do.”
Alexis Roach provided victories in the 200 freestyle (2:06.75) and 100 breaststroke (1:15.23), and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams.
Courtney May contributed a victory in the 200 individual medley (2:38.69) as Craig went to 1-3 in the Big Eight.
“It was a very, very exciting meet,” Kitzman said. “Beloit really swam us tough.”
Craig is off until next Friday when it hosts Madison La Follette.
