— A Janesville man is in custody after multiple reports of shots fired on Van Buren Street on Wednesday night.

Police arrested Jonathon M. Aguiniga, 25, of 3152 W. Van Buren St., Janesville, at 1 a.m. Thursday at Jackson and Van Buren streets on a charge of recklessly endangering safety.

Police responded to a report of shots fired at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, people were running off in all directions, but police found a witness who saw Aguiniga shooting down the street, Lt. Keith Lawver said.

Police arrested Aguiniga without incident, Lawver said.

Police blocked two blocks of South Jackson Street, between Holmes and McKinley streets, as they looked for evidence.

Numerous residents called 911 to report hearing shots, Sgt. Jim Holford said.

Police did not find any people with injuries or bullet holes in any houses, Lawver said. Police do not know why Aguiniga shot or what kind of gun he used, Lawver said.

The incident remains under investigation.

Aguiniga was scheduled to appear in court at 4 p.m. today.
