Red Hawks tennis turns back Cougars
MILTON Milton and Janesville Craig concluded their girls tennis regular seasons Thursday as the Red Hawks defeated the visiting Cougars. 5-2, in a nonconference match.
Milton's Lea Krajkovikova improved to 20-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kaylee Rossing at No. 1 singles.
"She's the real thing," Craig coach Bill Peyer said of Krajkovikova. "Kaylee did a good job."
Elizabeth Murphy, Hannah Simes and Amie Sommer completed a singles sweep for the Red Hawks.
Leah Voskuil and Miranda Mishleau at No. 1 and Hayley Hughes and Kenzie Trappe at No. 2 doubles collected the Cougar victories.
Milton's Abby Simes and Sydney Schoberle outlasted Craig's Sara Runde and Sierra Reese in a three-set marathon at No. 3 doubles.
The Red Hawks begin tournament play at the Stoughton sub-sectionals Monday.
The Cougars compete in the Big Eight Conference tournament today at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison starting at 8 a.m.
Middleton is the regular dual meet season champion, but Verona, Madison Memorial and Madison West could give the Cardinals a challenge in the tournament.
