Memorial drops Bluebirds
Madison Memorial's top line provided all the firepower the Spartans needed against the Janesville Bluebirds on Tuesday night in Big Eight hockey action.
Ty Pelton-Byce scored twice and added an assist, Riley Karns scored once and assisted on a pair of goals, and Jacob Padley notched three assists as Memorial skated away with a 4-0 victory over Janesville's high school co-op team.
Memorial improved to 7-6 in the Big Eight and 11-11 overall. Janesville fell to 5-8 and 7-13-1.
"They had one line that really did a nice job," Janesville coach John Mauermann said.
The game remained scoreless midway through the second period when Memorial defenseman Nick Roby broke the deadlock. He was the only other player to tally a point outside Memorial's big three offensive weapons.
Pelton-Byce doubled the Spartans' lead early in the third period with help from Karns.
The Bluebirds narrowly missed an opportunity to cut their deficit in half moments later.
"We came down and Connor Perkins hit the pipe early in the period," Mauermann said. "But then Memorial scored the power play goal and it kind of got away from us."
Janesville wraps up its home schedule with a nonconference game against Hartland Arrowhead at 7 p.m. Thursday.
