Whitewater pulls away from visiting Oshkosh
UW-Whitewater used the free throw line as an ally Wednesday in a 75-58 victory over visiting UW-Oshkosh in WIAC men's basketball.
Whitewater is 20-4 overall and 12-3 in the WIAC with one regular league game remaining. Oshkosh is 7-17 and 2-13.
The Warhawks made 26 of 32 free throw attempts and clinched a WIAC tournament first-round bye. Oshkosh committed 23 fouls to Whitewater's 13 and made six of nine free throws overall.
Stevens Point clinched the regular-season title by edging Stout, 76-74. Whitewater could have moved into a first-place tie had the Blue Devils defeated the Pointers.
KJ Evans scored a season high 12 points to lead the Warhawks. Patrick Souter, Quardell Young, Darnell Harris and Eric Bryson, an Elkhorn graduate, added 11 points apiece.
Oshkosh freshman guard Alex Olsen topped all scorers with 14 points, with freshman forward Andre Wallace adding 10.
Whitewater closes the regular season at home, hosting UW-River Falls at 4 p.m. Saturday.
