— Move-in day for residents of the new county nursing home is now set for Monday, May 13.

At Thursday's Rock County Board meeting, Rock Haven Nursing Home Administrator Sherry Gunderson provided an update on construction progress.

The $25.7 million project's "substantial completion date" was originally scheduled for Sept. 30, 2012. It was later moved to Jan. 31.

The building is expected to be "released to the county" today, Gunderson said.

That means that although work still has to be done, furniture will start to be delivered and staff can begin training in the new facility.

The building complex, which is on one level, will have four "neighborhood" buildings that will each be home to 32 residents.

A "community building" sits in the middle of the four residential buildings.

The complex also will feature two landscaped courtyards.

Residents originally expected to move in last year, but work was delayed by a variety of issues.

The most significant of these was the state inspector's insistence that the county build additional staircases to the mezzanines containing the building's heating and air conditioning components.

Because of unexpected expenses, the county board approved an additional $317,903 for the project.

The county board hopes to hold its April board meeting in an all-purpose room at the new complex.
