Boys basketball wrap up: Free throws fuel Edgerton's fourth-quarter surge

Edgerton's marksmanship from the line sparked a WIAA Division 3 boys basketball regional opening victory at home against Big Foot on Tuesday night.

The Crimson Tide hit 19 of 22 free throws in the final quarter to pull away from a 52-all tie going into the period en route to a 76-62 victory.

Cam Wileman hit a three-pointer to start off the fourth quarter and give the Crimson Tide the lead for good. Edgerton then used defense and free throws to build the lead. Adam Converse hit six of six free throws and finished with 13 made free throws and 23 total points.

Wileman was right behind with 22 points.

Carter Hehr led the Chiefs with 20 points, Bryan Colby had 14, and Austin Hoey added 10.

Edgerton plays at Marshall on Friday night.

-- Jefferson 46, Evansville 33—Jefferson used a 10-0 run in the second quarter to grab a double-digit lead and the Eagles were clutch from the free-throw line down the stretch to win their Division 3 regional opener.

Jalen McGraw and Clayton Morrison led the Eagles with 12 points apiece. The team sunk 10 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter, including Marcus Ott's 6 of 8 performance as he scored all eight of his points in the final eight minutes.

Matt Sperry led the Blue Devils with nine points.

The Eagles travel to Lodi, the top seed in the region, Friday night.

Brock Vredeveld led Lakeside with 16 points. Danny Lewis had nine points to lead Brodhead (5-18).

Jesse Collins had 11 points to lead Delavan-Darien (7-16), which trailed 17-4 after one quarter.

Arik Anderson had 19 points to lead Elkhorn (11-12), while Drew Bryson added 18.

-- Palmyra-Eagle 76, Christian Life 61—Alex Kelly made seven 3-pointers, including four in the third quarter, as the Panthers took down Kenosha Christian Life in a Division 4 regional game.

Nick Hein scored nine of his 11 points in the first half, and Matt Preuss added 10 points.

The Panthers advance to face Kenosha St. Joe's on the road Friday night.
