Elkhorn, Fort Atkinson girls win regional openers

Elkhorn High's Jessica Hauer and Allyson Reeves scored eight points apiece as the Elks took down Union Grove, 37-20, Wednesday in a Division 2 regional girls basketball opener.

Elkhorn (12-12) travels to Whitewater (19-3) at 7 p.m. Friday for a regional semfinal.

ELKHORN 37, UNION GROVE 20

-- Fort Atkinson 56, Delavan-Darien 32—The Blackhawks rolled to a 32-12 halftime lead.

Kaitlyn Hollman scored 14 points, Emma Bare and Lauren Pfeifer scored 10 points apiece for Fort. Kylie Collins scored 14 points for Delavan-Darien.

Fort Atkinson (8-15) travels to No. 6 ranked Wilmot (20-2) for a Division 2 regional semifinal at 7 p.m. Friday. Delavan-Darien finished 3-20 overall.

Division 4

-- Parkview 40, Fennimore 35—The Vikings squeezed past the Golden Eagles with heads-up play in the fourth quarter for a Division 4 quarterfinal victory.

Parkview (7-16) trailed 27-20 at the half, but gained a 12-6 third-quarter advantage to cut the deficit to 33-32.

Mikayla Strzok scored 10 points and grabbed a key rebound on a missed free throw late. Emily Harnack scored five of her seven points in the fourth quarter for Parkview, which led, 37-35, when Harnack hit a free throw and missed the second.

Strzok grabbed the rebound with 17 seconds left and passed to Ciarra Heldt. Heldt sank a pair of free throws to seal the victory. Sarah Kearns added 13 points for Parkview.

PARKVIEW 40, FENNIMORE 35

Parkview (40)—Heldt 6, Harnack 7, Larsen 2, Strzok 10, Kearns 13, Jess 2. Totals 18 4-10 40.

Fennimore (35)—Needham 24, Udelhofen 8, Kohout 2, Maag 1. Totals 11 10-18 35.
