Whitewater women falls into four-way tie for first

UW-Whitewater's women's basketball team lost its second straight WIAC game Wednesday night, and with it, sole possession of first place in the conference.

UW-Oshkosh, behind two free throws each from Megan Wenig and Katie Kitzke in the final 25 seconds, held off visiting Whitewater, 54-49.

Whitewater (12-5, 6-2) led by as many as 11 in the first half but was outscored 38-27 in the second half. Courtney Kumerow had 15 points to lead the Warhawks but was the only player in double figures.

Katelyn Kuehl matched Kumerow with a game-high 15 points for Oshkosh, which moved into a first-place tie with Whitewater, UW-Superior and UW-Stevens Point at 6-2 in the WIAC.

OSHKOSH 54, WHITEWATER 49

Whitewater (49)—Palmer, 2-0-4; Kumerow, 5-5-15; Thill, 2-4-9; Theune, 2-0-4; Merg, 4-0-9; Burton, 1-0-2; Quandt, 3-0-6. Totals: 19-9-49.

Oshkosh (54)—Conroy, 1-3-5; Winterfeldt, 1-0-2; Kuehl, 4-7-15; Wenig, 4-4-14; Kitzke, 3-6-13; Neustitter,v2-1-5. Totals: 15-21-54.

Three-point goals—Whitewater 2 (Thill, Merg), Oshkosh 3 (Wenig 2, Kitzke). Free throws missed—Whitewater 5, Oshkosh 7. Rebounds—Whitewater 35 (Palmer 10), Oshkosh 37 (Winterfeldt 9). Total fouls—Whitewater 22, Oshkosh 13.
