wow...the story about the 100 year cost of war was very interesting...too bad we can't comment on the state and national stories unless they're found here...

I think it's very important for soldiers and vets to be taken care of by their country...during times of active duty, and after they come home...my dad was a Viet Nam vet who did 2 tours in the Army, 1967-1969, as a tank driver on the front lines...he volunteered for duty when he was barely 17....he and the rest of the soldiers who survived Nam came home with a wide variety of maladies, physical and mental, and were treated like trash by civilians upon returning home, and rejected by the government that sent them over there, as well...imagine what it was like for anyone to be in the service to come home to a nation of people who hated them...

and because Agent Orange has so many detrimental effects short term and long term, it is near impossible to say that heart disease and diabetes are not related to exposure...that war killed my dad long before his death...his spirit and his body...for decades he suffered untreated from PTSD and several long-term illnesses the VA couldn't diagnose, while no one at the VA would listen when he asked for help...he left us in January of this year due to complications from a service related malady...

a lot of the trauma in his life could have been prevented had the VA taken responsibility for the treatment of Agent Orange side effects and PTSD as soon as these solders came stateside, and I feel now it is time for the gov't to take care of and effectively deal with all the issues related to serving our country, stateside or overseas, in peacetime or in war...
