State unemployment rates had big increase in January

Reflecting the post-holiday doldrums, January unemployment rates jumped markedly in all 12 Wisconsin metro areas, according to the state's Department of Workforce Development.
Overall, the state unemployment rate in January was 8 percent, significantly higher than the 6.6 percent rate posted in December and above the 7.7 percent posted in January 2012, the department reported Wednesday.
In Rock County, the overall unemployment rate increased from 7.9 percent in December to 9.5 percent in January. In January 2012, the local rate was 9.4 percent.
In a news release, the department said unemployment rates typically hit their highest levels during winter months, particularly when they are not seasonally adjusted.
The trend extended beyond the largest metro areas in the state, the department reported. All 72 counties reported increases, as did the 32 cities with at least 25,000 people.
Among counties, Rock reported the 24th highest rate, while Dane County had the lowest at 5.5 percent. Walworth County had a January unemployment rate of 9 percent, while Green and Jefferson counties had rates of 7.4 percent and 8.4 percent, respectively.
Among individual cities, Janesville's rate of 9.9 percent was the 10th highest in the state. At 12.5 percent, Beloit was the second highest behind Racine's rate of 13.3 percent.

Funny how the right blames the left for the same things the left blames the right. You know what is even funnier(sadly), both are correct.

The problem is the disagreement over who the job creators are. I think if we should take away anything from the past few years its that the 1% doesn't create jobs. When there are record numbers of people on welfare and record profits for corporations and CEOs something's wrong. If you redistribute a small amount of your rediculous profit among your employees they will then use it to buy stuff thus creating jobs. You give a multimillionaire more money and they put it in an offshore bank account which does nothing for the economy.

Hey Fear let's put the blame where it really lies and point the finger the right way at Obama and the Democrats and Walker and the Republicans because there is enough blame to go around for both parties. Because they wont work with the job creators to try and solve this problem.

Wisconsin was at 9.2% unemployment when Diamond Jim left the governors office, January 2011.
Yet, all we hear about for the past two years, is how terrible Walker has done.

Oh man, look at all these left wingers complain about lack of jobs. A state Governor can only do as much as the Federal Government allows. The only way this gets better is to replace the Democrats in Washington.
When you left wingers stop bankrupting California farmers over a 1 in silver fish, stop suing companies that open businesses in right to work states, stop harressing businesses in Texas because of a lizard and stop stopping mining bills over some sapping jack pines, stop giving away our money to failing solar companies (19 at last count), then you come to us about Walker.

There is a standard measure whether you and walker like it or not. If we put those lazy children and elderly into the workforce then unemployment would be 50%. Might as well. Whatever you can fabricate to prove your point.

In February there were 12 million people who said they had looked for a job without success, compared with only 155.5 million in the labor force.
If you count those discouraged workers the real unemployment rate jumps to 14.3%. Under President Obama an estimated 8.6 million jobs have been lost or eliminated from the records.
Wow - Obama 14.3% real time misery.

Politician's like Democrats and Republicans should ware a shock collar that goes off every time they tell a lie. Obama and the Democrats are just as crooked as Walker and the Republicans. Why all they care about are their wallets and not the people they represent. Food Stamps would not be necessary if the job creators would knock off the bitching and work with the politician's yo get people working again instead of the constant bickering that goes on like in the blog for example. Now if this would happen you could start to fix this economy and get people back to work. But it won't happen why because both sides continue to point fingers and play the blame game and bicker and argue. That is how you start to fix this is by listening and learning then putting into practice what you want to do. If we don't nothing will never change. And I am calling the way I see it.

The problem with the states economy is the uncertainty created by the recalls. Oh wait, that can't be it. Maybe the job creators actually were hoping the conquerer would have been removed from office.

I believe that sometimes the comparison is of figures that are not "adjusted" vs ACTUAL numbers. Where is the headline for the adjustment made by the FEDS, where they posted numbers that were 57,000 off (again)? The Feds like to play with the numbers, we see it every week when they release the national job numbers. They are always adjusted the next week....UP (except when they are talking about Wisconsin).
The March 16 article in the Madison papers didn't get much press, mostly because it showed Wisconsin was creating jobs.
"Nationally, the benchmarking adjustment announced Thursday was 0.3 percent and it’s unclear why it was so much higher for Wisconsin. BLS officials contacted by The Capital Times on Friday declined to speculate on that question"

It's time to recognize Walker for the failure that he is. Under his leadership, WI has lagged far behind all neighboring states in terms of employement and economic recovery. He has been more focused on trying to establish his national image within the Republican party rather than focus on his duties as governor. In short, he is the worst governor in the nation.

One point I would like to make is that Gov. Walker made his promise knowing Pres. Obama was in office. I don't understand why Gov. Walker would have made his jobs promise if he didn't think he could do it despite the President. Bottom line is that Gov. Walker has no excuse, he knew what he was getting into.

High unemployment is bad for wisconsin. Is Walker and his cronies completely to blame? No, but the shoulder the large burden here as they should. I want the state to be prosperous, I dont care who is in charge. Unfortunatley this Republican super majority has done nothing for the state but set us into a constant "ram it down" your throat style politics that will cause us to now spend years in the courts on almost every ridiculously over reaching bill they pass.
Whe will the conservatives hold Walker responsible for low employment numbers and higher spending? They are not capable of it, it requires honesty. Honesty is not possible in politics in America anymore, ou are simply a true believer.

Absolute dishonesty based on Party. Scott Walker has absolutely failed on what he promised in his campaign, but you will find a way to blame the other party. Walker should never have made the promises he did, there was no way he could have come through. The fact ius that he has had a super majority most of his time in and..........nothing. Wait for it.....its Obama's fault. During the global economic crisis when Bush presided over the countr for 7 ears before the largest economic recession ever......Doyles fault.
