Vivian M. Godding, Janesville  (1919 - 2008)

Vivian M. Godding, 89, a lifelong Janesville resident, passed away early Wednesday morning, Oct. 1, 2008, at Mercy Hospital. She was born in Janesville on May 11, 1919, the daughter of the late Theodore & Mildred ((Kitzman) Hiller. She attended school in Janesville and was a graduate of Janesville High School, Class of 1936. She then attended Janesville Business College before entering the workforce. She was employed at the Rock River Woolen Mills, Dolly Hats, and Banker's Life before her retirement. On Aug. 23, 1939, she married Kenneth E. "Sparky" Godding in Janesville. He preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 2003. She was a former member of the Janesville Women's Club and also the Elks Club. She was a wonderful Bridge player and was involved in several Bridge groups in the area. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Viv loved the outdoors, and enjoyed tending to her gardens and walking. She was an avid reader and also loved the challenge of crossword puzzles. She very much loved her dogs, and she usually never missed watching Bill O'Reilly on the FOX network. She will be missed by many, and will be remembered as a most generous person who would give her last dollar if it would help another!
She is survived by her four children: Gary (Norma) Godding of Janesville, Gail (Bernard) Losching of Florida, Vikki Wong of Janesville, and Patti (Ray Shine) Cusick, of Connecticut; 11 grandchildren: Boyd (Lynn) Godding, Lisa (Troy) Hamil, Kipley (Mark) Losching-Erdman, Tenya (Steve) Losching-DePaepe, Ayrand (Gregg) Robinson, Marni (fiancé, Rick Zywicki) Peterson, Jill Peterson, Nicole (Ken) Finnen, Janson (Lynn) Cusick, Eric (Shelley) Wong, and Donna (Abe) Wong-Rabinowitz; her 21 great-grandchildren: Steven, Daniel, and Katie Godding, Kayla & Zakary Kurtz, Zachary & Elizabeth Eide, Daniel Erdman, Madeleine & Alexander Robinson, Erin & Devin Peterson, Joy, Jake, Madeline, & Carter Finnen, Andrew, William, & Olivia DePaepe, and Ari & Ilan Wong Rabinowitz; a great-great-granddaughter, Jaelah Fields; nieces, nephews, and many friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Dean Godding; her son-in-law, Roy Wong; and her brother, Teddy Hiller.
Vivian's family would like to extend their thanks to the wonderful staff of Mercy Assisted Care Hospice; especially to Pam & Sherry, and also to Pastor George Baumann.
As per Vivian's request, she will be cremated, and her family will hold a Celebration of Life for her at a later time. Memorials in her name may be made to the Rock Co. Humane Society, ECHO, or to the Salvation Army. The WHITCOMB-LYNCH-ALBRECHT FUNERAL HOME, JANESVILLE, is assisting her family with arrangements.
