Mary Grace (Parr) Weisensel, 78, of Madison, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on Aug. 11, 1930, in Sun Prairie, the daughter of Ethel (Motl) and Francis "Frank" Parr. Mary attended Sacred Hearts Catholic School in Sun Prairie, and then graduated from Sun Prairie High School in 1948. She worked at National Guardian Life as a secretary. Mary married Leon J. Weisensel on June 21, 1952, at Sacred Hearts Catholic Church, Sun Prairie. They moved to Madison and had three children. Leon and Mary were charter members of St. Dennis Catholic Church. She was active in the Home and School Association while her children were young. Mary enjoyed canning and freezing fresh produce from the large, abundant gardens she raised with Leon. Her beautiful flower gardens and roses were a source of pride and joy to her. Mary also enjoyed crafts, especially crocheting and embroidery. She enjoyed being part of her sewing circle with friends. Mary was an avid reader, a great cook, and a wonderful baker. She took pleasure in telling stories of growing up on the farm with her brothers and sister, whom she dearly loved. Mary was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister, who is deeply loved and whose gentle touch will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Leon; three children: Barbara (Daniel) Kelly of Madison, Michael Weisensel of Madison, and Lynn (John) Breen of Janesville; 10 grandchildren: Andrew (fiancée, Amanda Laine) Kelly, Christopher Kelly, Amy (Aaron) Koclanes, Kayti (Miguel) Segura, Adam Weisensel, Nicolas Weisensel, Lucas Weisensel, Nicole Breen, Christina Breen, and Melissa Breen; five great-grandchildren: Kayleena and Jaden Koclanes, Jenifer Segura, Landon Weisensel, and Anya Breen; sister, Ruth (Bernard) Broome of Waterloo; brother, Donald (Sandra) Parr of Madison; and in-laws, godchildren, nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Leo Parr; and a granddaughter, Angie Weisensel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2009, with Father Lance Schneider presiding. Visitation will be at the CHURCH from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Sacred Hearts Cemetery, Sun Prairie.
