Melinda Calverley, Janesville  (1940 - 2009)

May 1, 1940 - June 5, 2009
Melinda Calverley, 69, died on Friday, June 5, 2009, at the Our House Memory Care Facility, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Melinda was born in Indianapolis on May 1, 1940, the daughter of John F. and Connie (Moore) Miller. She grew up in Vincennes, IN, and in 1962 she graduated from Indiana University School of Nursing. After graduation, Melinda worked at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis as a nurse and teacher for four years. She had a special love for the children admitted to the hospital for treatment. Most of the children had serious injuries or illnesses, and Melinda had many stories to tell about them and their families. On Dec. 26, 1966, Melinda and David L. Calverley were married in Vincennes, IN. They lived in four communities in Indiana over a twenty-year period, and in 1986 they moved to Janesville, WI. Melinda’s devotion to helping others led her to volunteering at Cargill United Methodist Church in various roles, including serving as the Lay Leader; helping with the Mercy Health System Association of Volunteers as a board member and school tour guide at the hospital, being a member of PEO (Chapter AY), and assisting in the Janesville School District’s Reading Program. Melinda was decisive and strong-minded, and her attitude was that with God’s love, there is no task too big to undertake.
Survivors include her husband, David; daughter, Ann of Elgin, IL; son, Dan of Janesville; aunt, Winslow Price; cousin, Dana Burton; both of Louisville, KY; stepbrother, Tom Cronk; and stepsister, Susan Glover.
