Russell E. Carroll, Janesville  (1914 - 2009)

April 28, 1914 - June 14, 2009
Russell E. Carroll, 95, passed away peacefully, with his children at his side, on Sunday, June 14, 2009. He was born on April 28, 1914, in Newark Township, WI, son of James and Margaret (Chapman) Carroll. Russell attended school through the eighth grade, leaving school to help on the family farm. Russell married Martha Bamlett on Nov. 4, 1938, after proposing to her on the dance floor at Beckman Mill, and enjoyed 58 years of marriage until her death on July 8, 1996.
Russell was always very proud of his farming background, and was the epitome of the saying, “you can take the man out of the farm, but you can’t take the farm out of the man.” In 1960, Russell gave up farming and moved his family into the City of Beloit, working first at Fairbanks Morse, and then at the Beloit Corporation as a machinist, retiring at the age of 65. Russell then went back to farming, working for Jack Kalk for many years.
He was also known for his pride in his beloved Chrysler cars, and for many years was a presence at Bryden Motors, visiting with the guys in the shop. He was a lifelong Catholic and a devoted member of St. Peter Catholic Church, attending Mass every day, until his health made it impossible for him to get there.
Russell was also a member of the Turtle Grange and worked every year in the Grange food tent at the Rock County Fair. Russell also volunteered at the house sales for Helpful Hannah's House. Russell enjoyed music, dancing, puttering in his yard, visiting with friends, and most of all, his family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Huntington Place, Hartland Hospice, and to Myrna for the care given to Russell.
Russell is survived by his children: Barbara (Orland) Carter of Beloit, Karla (Dr. Jeffrey) Kurtz of Wausau, Keith Carroll of South Beloit, IL, and Laurie Dybevik of Stoughton; daughter-in-law, Linda Poineal of Romeoville, IL; son-in-law, Thomas Dybevik of Stoughton; 11 grandchildren: Cindy (Rick) Alexander, Mary (Dan Lockhart) Poineal, Bradley (Becky) Carter, Corey Carter, Timothy Carter, Heidi, Haley, and Hartley Kurtz, Gregory and Trevor (Kelsey) Dybevik, and Shane Carroll; three great-grandchildren: Daphne Poineal, Allison and Jackson Carter; sister, Josephine Freitag; brother, Richard Carroll; sister-in-law, Helen Carroll; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Glen Poineal; great-granddaughter, Molly Carter; brothers: Kenneth, William, and Bernard Carroll; and sisters, Catherine Peters and Dorothy Fensterman.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2009, in ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 620 Blackhawk Blvd., South Beloit, IL, with Father Jerome Koutnik officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 until 7 p.m. in DALEY MURPHY WISCH & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, with a Rosary to be recited at 4:45 p.m. Memorials may be given in his name to St. Peter Catholic School.
