Thomas Lee Boos, 60, of Fort Atkinson passed away in an aircraft accident on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, near Sheldon, IA. Tom was born on July 13, 1948. After graduating from Fort Atkinson High School in 1966, Tom served four years in the United States Air Force as a machinist stationed at Blytheville Air Force Base, AR. After serving in the military, Tom worked at Crepaco, Palmer Ford, for 27 years at Ladish Malt and, most recently, part-time at McIntyre Floral. A lifelong resident of Fort Atkinson he celebrated 14 years of marriage to Nancy (Burrow) Boos on May 6th. Tom was an aviation enthusiast and a long-standing member of the Microlite EAA Chapter 1. He was a regular participant at Air Venture, Oshkosh, since 1979 volunteering at the Ultralight area. He shared his love of flight with his closest friends, Tom McCarthy, Tom Brown, and his brother, Tim. An avid outdoorsman, Tom enjoyed many hunting and fishing adventures. He belonged to several organizations, including the Wisconservation Club, Ducks Unlimited, the National Turkey Federation, and Pheasants Forever. Several of Tom's most memorable fishing trips were shared with cousin, Steve Sake, and close friend, Tom Roe. Tom's love for the outdoors often took him and Nancy for day trips on his Honda Goldwing motorcycle. Along with other local motorcycle riders, he would ride through some of the prettiest Wisconsin countryside.
Tom is survived by his wife, Nancy; brothers: Jeff (Gayle) of Fort Atkinson, Tim (Donna) of Columbia, MO; Andrew of Everette, WA; one sister, Karen of Delores, CO; and 10 nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special family, Erv Burrow; his father-in-law, Brian and Holly Kammer; and his little buddies, Natalie and Jack Kammer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Joyce Boos of Hebron, WI.
Funeral services celebrating Tom's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, Fort Atkinson, with Rev. Bryan Engfer and Father Jay Poster co-officiating. A visitation will be held Monday evening, June 29, 2009, from 4 until 8 p.m. at NITARDY FUNERAL HOME. A short visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on June 30th, prior to the service. Lunch will follow after interment at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials can be made in Tom’s name to Tomorrow’s Hope or to Rainbow Hospice.
