Charles Sheldon Steed, 74, of Janesville, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2009, at home. Charles was born on Jan. 16, 1935, a son of Edward M. and Althea D. (Sheldon) Steed. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army as a radio operator from 1955 to 1958. After his discharge he worked with his parents in their drapery business before starting his 35-year career with Wisconsin Bell, in February of 1960, until his retirement in November of 1996. On Aug. 19, 1961, Chuck married Kathleen M. McNally, in Janesville. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathleen; five children: Maria (Steve) Caya of Janesville, Maureen (Amir) Sharifi of Janesville, Bill (Dwana) Steed of Humble, TX, Tom (Shelly) Steed of Janesville, and Michelle Steed of Janesville; his 10 grandchildren that gave him strength and were his rays of sunshine: Lailey, Laudan, Arya, Cody, Darian, Logan, Brenna, Colin, Devon, and Nolan; a brother, Dennis (Sandy Hendricks) Steed of Janesville; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Steed. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Michael Steed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2009, at ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, with Fr. Randy Timmerman officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. A visitation will held on Wednesday from 4 until 7 p.m. at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME. Lasting Memorials may be made to HospiceCare, Inc. or Home Health United.
