Lloyd Berg, Stoughton, WI (2009)
1922 - 2009
His wife was by his side when Lloyd received the call from his Heavenly Father on Sunday, June 28, 2009. He was 86 and in poor health, and ready for that final journey.
Lloyd's parents, Joseph and Semanda lived in Utica, and he joined a family that included two brothers and one sister. He went to a one-room school house, and during the Depression he came home and found out that his dad had the electricity turned off, as money was needed to buy necessities. Lloyd married Barbara Sime and they farmed awhile, and then he got a job with Borden's delivering to stores, schools and hospitals. They had two sons, Ronald and Richard; and a daughter, Lori. Lloyd also worked at the Edgerton Highway Trailer and retired from his favorite job as head custodian at the Edgerton High School in 1987.
After his retirement he continued to work part-time at school, and was also custodian at the United Methodist Church, Edgerton, and at the age of 78 retired from a part-time job at Mautz Paints in Madison. He was a hard worker. For the past 12 years, Lloyd and his wife Karen have lived in the Skaalendal Retirement Community in Stoughton. They celebrated their 40th anniversary on May 31st of this year. Lloyd and Karen loved to dance in their younger years. He has always been a fan of Badger basketball and football and the Milwaukee Brewers. Visits from family and friends meant a lot and also card games with neighbors.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Karen of Stoughton; two sons, Ronald (Deborah) Berg of Onalaska, WI, and Richard (Carol) Berg of Baraboo, WI; a daughter: Lori (Jeff) Platt of Beaver Dam, WI; four grandchildren: Stacey (Shawn) Foster, Amanda (Matt) Owens, Adraeya Platt, and Eric Platt; and one great-granddaughter, Ave Jean Foster. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Purdell and Arnold; sister, Jeanette Cook; and many cats, his favorite being Squeaky.
