Janice Morgan Vargas, The Villages, FL/formerly Janesville (1954 - 2012)
December 7, 1954 - July 30, 2012
Janice Morgan Vargas died 30, July 2012, at the age of 57, in The Villages, FL. Her husband and family members were by her side. Jan was born Dec. 7, 1954, in Rochester, PA, to John and Evelyn Cameron Morgan. Jan moved to Janesville, WI, when she was 15, where she attended Craig High School and later the University of Wisconsin, Madison. In the mid 1990s, she began work with Carnegie Mellon’s Software Engineering Institute. In 2001, she met, and six months later, married COL (R) Kevin Vargas. In 2010, the couple retired to The Villages, FL.
Jan’s kindness and warmth were infectious and touched all she met. She made friends wherever she went, and it was one of her customs to give new acquaintances nicknames: from Skittles to Dr. Allstate to Dr. George Peppard. All were charmed by her friendliness. Jan’s strength and support were a firm foundation for her family and friends through good times and bad, and her careful cultivation of relationships resulted in friendships that stretched over more than five decades.
Memorial services to be held in Janesville, WI, and in Washington, DC, will be announced at a later date.
Jan is survived by her mother, Evelyn; husband, Kevin; step-daughter, Kelaine; step-son, Kevin, his wife, Whitney, and their son, Wren; siblings and spouses: Phyllis and Kenneth Thyman, Larry and Karen Morgan, Michael and Loretta Morgan, and Jay and Kristi Morgan; brother-in-laws and their wives: Joseph and Mary Ann, and John and Veronica; and 23 nieces and nephews.
