Eugene "Huey" E. Benash, Janesville/Footville, WI/Evansville, WI (1930 - 2012)
Eugene "Huey" E. Benash, age 82, died Tuesday Aug. 7, 2012, peacefully at home. He was born on the family homestead on Jan. 12, 1930, the son of Edward and Hattie (Harnack) Benash. He later took over the family homestead, which is now called Benash Century Farm. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War where he earned the Occupational Medal (Japan), Korean Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. While in the service, he met Marcia Drew and they were married on Nov. 11, 1952, in South Huston TX. He was a member of the Footville American Legion Post 237, Evansville V.F.W. Post 6905 and Zion Lutheran church. He enjoyed playing cards and watching the wildlife from his patio deck. His famous last words were "Be Sweet".
He is survived by his wife, Marcia of fifty nine years; five children: Pat (Tim) Loveland of Janesville, David Benash, Brian Benash, both of Footville, Penny (Al) Reynolds of Evansville, Matt Benash of OR; 11 grandchildren: Michelle (Rod Shaw) of Liberty, MO., Jeff (Angie) Loveland, Scott (Monica) Loveland, Paul Loveland, Cole Benash, all of Janesville, Mike Kane of Footville, Brianna Reynolds of Evansville, Jacob Reynolds who is stationed in Afghanistan, Lindsey, Jenny and Bailey Benash of OR; and many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Fern McCoy and Bea Soetaert; and a sister-in-law, Bev Benash-Gibson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Edward; a sister, Lorraine Fenrick; and twin daughters at birth.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday Aug. 19, 2012, at the WARD FUNERAL HOME EVANSVILLE, with Reverend David Lieske of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery with Military Rites provided by Footville American Legion Post 237. A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday at the FUNERAL HOME.
