Gertrude E. Swatek Foley, Janesville (1933 - 2012)

Gertrude E. Swatek Foley, age 79, of Janesville, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at her son’s home in Dane, WI, surrounded by her family, resulting from Breast Cancer, Lung Cancer and Bronchial Cancer. She was born in Muscoda, WI, on April 25, 1933, the daughter of Edward and Elenora (Gies) Laufenberg. She graduated from Madison High School in 1950, and attended the University of Wisconsin Madison, for Art History. A Janesville resident for over 20 years, Gertrude married Richard Swatek in 1952, and he preceded her in death in 1982. She later married Robert Foley in 1988, and he preceded her in death in 1996. She worked at the Blackhawk Technical College and later at the Beloit Courthouse as the Small Claims Clerk, until her retirement in 1995. Gertrude was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, and had volunteered at the Salvation Army, Rock County Council on Aging, and Rotary Gardens.
Her children, Rick and Sue, were honored to provide care and comfort in the exit journey of their loving mother, who brought them into the world. They also extend deep gratitude for the help of Hospice, Sister Prayers, Priest Prayers and the Sacraments by Monsignor; in addition to the countless Prayers of many family and friends.
Gertrude is survived by her two children: Susan (Mike) Orvis of Baraboo, and Richard (Cheryl) Swatek of Dane, WI; five grandchildren: Zachary Kraus in (CA), Stephanie Kraus (WI), Richard Swatek III (MT), Joseph Swatek (MT), and Samantha Swatek (MN); a sister, Marcelline O’Brien of Madison; other extended relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a son, Scott Swatek; and sister, Regina Minerick.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the FUNERAL HOME. Memorials are preferred to Mercy Hospice, Heartland Hospice, St. John Vianney Catholic Church or St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Waunakee, WI.
