Curtis M. Hubertz, Fontana, WI  (1917 - 2012)

Curtis M. Hubertz, age 95, of Fontana, WI, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at his home in Fontana. Curt was born Jan. 22, 1917, in Chicago, IL, to parents, Halvor Peter and Helga (Johnson) Hubertz. He was united in marriage to Jane Featherstone on Nov. 29, 1941, in Fontana, WI. Curt proudly served his country as a firefighter in the United States Navy during World War II. He was an electrical engineer, working with his father for Hubertz Electronics in Franklin, IL. Curt was employed by Besly Wells in South Beloit, IL, which later became the Bendix Corporation. Most recently, he was the president of Plastronics Plus, Inc. of East Troy, WI.
Curt and his father designed numerous scoreboards across the country for such organizations at the Pittsburg Pirates and others. They are best known for their scoreboard at Wrigley Field in Chicago, IL, which they serviced for 75 years.
Curt served as president of the Village of Fontana from 1966 to 1974; past president of the Walworth-Fontana Rotary Club, where he had over 40 years of perfect attendance; and was a member of the Ingalls-Koeppan American Legion Post #102. Curt was best known for his portrayal of Santa Claus for the Village of Fontana, for the grade school, nursing homes, shut-ins, Lakelawn Lodge, and others. His greatest pleasure in life came from his family. He was also a great fan of his granddaughters Stephanie and Rebecca's piano recitals and concerts, which he attended faithfully.
Curt is survived by his children: Judy (Joe) Kompare of Lyons, IL, Peter Hubertz of Fontana, WI, Jane Ann (Howard) Bielich of Madison, WI, Curtis (Rosemary) Hubertz of Elkhorn, WI, Craig (Jamie) Hubertz of Delavan, WI, JoEllen (Ronald) Shelton of Elkhorn, WI, Chris (Sara) Hubertz of Elm Grove, WI, and Pat (Peg) Hubertz of Walworth, WI; grandchildren: Erin Hubertz, Leah (Josh) Flitcroft of Delavan, Alissa (Keith) Burdick of Elkhorn, WI, Kyle Hubertz of Elkhorn, WI, Bryce (Marit) Hubertz of San Francisco, CA, Adam (Tonya) Hubertz of Madison, WI, Quinn Hubertz of San Francisco, CA, Sigrid Hubertz of Delavan, WI, Matthew Bielich of Seattle, WA, Megan Bielich of Chico, CA, Hannah Hubertz of Delavan, WI, Hillary Hubertz and Collin Hubertz of Walworth, WI, Victoria Hubertz and Nicholas Hubertz of Elm Grove, WI Stephanie Shelton and Rebecca Shelton of Elkhorn, WI; and four great-grandchildren: Ella and Ethan Flitcroft, and Nolan and Britta Hubertz. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jane.
Services for Curtis Hubertz will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at ST. BENEDICT CATHOLIC CHURCH in Fontana, WI, with Fr. Norberto Sandoval officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memory Garden in Williams Bay, WI. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at TOYNTON FUNERAL HOME in Walworth, WI.
