William "Bill" Means, Delavan, WI (1919 - 2012)

William "Bill" Means, 93, of Delavan, died at Vintage on the Ponds, Delavan, on Dec. 29, 2012. Bill was born Jan. 20, 1919, in La Grange Twsp., Walworth Co., WI, the son of Charles Marquart and Iola Rowe. He graduated from Delavan High School in 1938. He, then, entered the U.S. Army and served in the third wave at D-Day. He earned the Bronze Star .He was a staff Sgt. Upon leaving the service in 1945, he married Grace Haines at the Little Church Around The Corner in New York City, in July of 1945. Bill was owner and operator of Means Trucking. He was a 67 year member of American Legion Post 95 and a member of the Delavan United Methodist Church. He loved fishing and hunting. He was also an avid bowler.
Bill is survived by his wife, Grace of Delavan; three sons: Jack Means of Tuscon, AZ, Robert (Charlotte) Means of Delavan, and Joe Means of Delavan; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by one brother.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2012, at the DELAVAN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH with Rev. Stan Curtis officiating and Military Services by American Legion Post 95 immediately following. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. Burial will be after the funeral luncheon at Spring Grove Cemetery, Delavan. Memorials to the Delavan United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Foundation are suggested.
