Phyllis Jean Dabson, Beloit, WI (1930 - 2012)

Phyllis Jean Dabson, 82, of Beloit, WI, died Sunday, July 22, 2012, in her home after a courageous battle with small cell lung cancer. She was strong, brave and positive throughout treatment and even received a special award for “Extra Effort in Cheerfulness”. She was born on March 25, 1930, in Milton, WI, the daughter of Wallace and Martha (Pantel) Kutz. Phyllis was a 1947 graduate of Whitewater High School. She married Robert “Bob” Dabson on Oct. 10, 1953, in St. Patrick’s Church, Janesville, WI. They moved to Beloit, WI, and raised five children. Phyllis called raising a great family her greatest achievement.
Phyllis was employed by Parker Pen from 1947 through 1953. She then worked for the Rockford Morning Star and the Rockton Township as a secretary from 1975 until 1995, when she retired. Phyllis was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for almost 60 years, she volunteered at the hospital for 10 years, and she loved golf and was a member of the Krueger Haskell Women’s League since 1995. She loved bridge, and traveling with her friend, Marilyn Wallen. She was creative and always enjoyed sewing, knitting, dancing, cooking and gardening. Phyllis was a loyal and great friend to all and always had a good time with her special friend, Char Armstrong.
Phyllis is survived by all her children: Ann (Len) Juneau of Plymouth, WI, Mike (Lori) Dabson of Beloit, WI, Scott (Kristin) Dabson of Atlanta, GA, Pat (Cass) Dabson of Beloit, WI, and Lori (Jamey) Dabson-Kirby of Telluride, CO; grandchildren: Seth and Maggie Dabson, Kate and Charlie Dabson, Brandi and Mazi Dabson; and her sister, Jan Beaubien of Arlington Heights, IL.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Robert (Bob) Dabson, on Feb. 21, 2002; her daughter, Barbara Jean Dabson; and her sister, Elaine Sessler.
The family would like to thank Dr. Vogel, Dr. Mahler, Dr. Leo , Dr. Miller and Beloit Regional Hospice for the special care given to Phyllis.
Visitation will be from 2 until 5 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2012, in the DALEY MURPHY WISCH & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI. Visitation will also be from 9:30 until 10:15 a.m. Monday in TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2012, in TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1850 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Reverend Edward H. May officiating. Burial will be in Rockton Cemetery, Rockton, IL.
A memorial will be established in her name at a later date.
