Gladys Mathilda Schmidt, Beloit, WI  (1916 - 2012)

Gladys Mathilda (Hilgendorf) Schmidt, 96, Beloit, WI, passed away surrounded by her loving family at her daughter’s home on Wednesday, June 20, 2012. Thanks to her favorite grandson, Kyle, she was able to spend all of her life living in her home, except for the last 82 days which she spent at her daughter’s home. Gladys was born April 9, 1916, in Beaver Dam, WI, the daughter of Alex and Eva (Gallitz) Hilgendorf. She was a 1934 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. Gladys married Roland Edmund Schmidt on May 20, 1939, in Dubuque, IA. He predeceased her on Dec. 18, 1992.
Gladys devoted her life to her husband, daughters, and grandchildren whom all loved her and will miss her very much. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, going out to eat with her family and being a member of the Republican Party. Gladys was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Beloit, WI.
Survivors include her four daughters: Caroline Smith of Navarre, FL, Geri (Dale) Brown of Milton, WI, Tammy (Peter) Rallo of South Beloit, IL, and Sue (Kevin) Kirichkow of Beloit, WI; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; beloved husband of 53 years, Roland; sister, Viola (Hilgendorf) Franke; and two brothers, Clarence and Chester Hilgendorf.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, June 24, 2012, in ST. JOHN’S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1000 Bluff Street, Beloit, WI, with Reverend Jonah Burakowski officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of Memories Mausoleum, Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday in the DALEY MURPHY WISCH & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
